As a gut health dietitian, I focus on nourishing my body with foods that promote a healthy digestive system. Instead of macro-counting calories or macronutrients, I prioritize fiber-rich foods that support a robust microbiome. Here's a peek into my daily meal plan:

  • Breakfast: Start the day with a smoothie packed with spinach, banana, chia seeds, and almond milk. This combination provides a blend of prebiotics (from chia seeds and banana) and probiotics (from the spinach).

  • Mid-Morning Snack: A small bowl of mixed berries topped with Greek yogurt. Berries are rich in polyphenols, which act as prebiotics, while Greek yogurt introduces beneficial bacteria to support gut health.

  • Lunch: Quinoa salad with roasted vegetables, chickpeas, and a lemon vinaigrette. Quinoa is a complete protein source and provides soluble fiber. Roasted vegetables offer a range of plant compounds that promote gut health.

  • Afternoon Snack: A handful of raw nuts (such as almonds or walnuts) and a few pieces of dark chocolate. These snacks provide healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants to keep energy levels stable throughout the day.

  • Dinner: Baked salmon with a side of roasted sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli. Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties beneficial for gut health. Sweet potatoes add more fiber and plant compounds.

  • Evening Snack (optional): A small serving of homemade hummus with carrot sticks or cucumber slices. Hummus, made from chickpeas, provides both protein and fiber, while carrots and cucumbers offer additional prebiotics and hydration.
