A New Hire Joins Business

Humza Jilani, a seasoned journalist, has joined the Business desk as the Persian Gulf correspondent. He will cover a wide range of topics, from economics and tech to energy, in a crucial and dynamic region.

Rich Barbieri, International Editor of the Business desk, welcomes Humza, highlighting his impressive background:

Humza’s beat will cover the business, finance, and geopolitics of the Middle East, collaborating regularly with reporters from both Business and International.

Previously, Humza was a correspondent for The Financial Times in Islamabad, where he uncovered the Pakistani military's business ventures and profiled Asim Munir, the country's de facto ruler. He also reported from Afghanistan, showcasing various aspects of life in the region.

Humza's journey in journalism began with an internship at Foreign Policy and continued through stints at Reuters, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal. His interest in the Persian Gulf dates back to a 2013 trip to Saudi Arabia. In Pakistan, he developed a passion for mountaineering, reaching within 200 feet of a 20,000-foot peak this summer.

Join us in welcoming Humza, who will begin his role today.
