ABC News abruptly removed a report scrutinizing business interests linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump less than a day after publication, with the network offering no public correction, editor's note, or explanation for why the story disappeared.

The Wednesday report claimed companies backed by President Donald Trump's sons had secured more than $6 billion in active or promised government contracts after receiving investments connected to them. But by Thursday morning, the original ABC News page was returning a 404 error.

The apparent deletion came after Alexa Henning, a spokesperson for venture capital firm 1789 Capital, publicly challenged several of the report's central claims.

"1789 Capital does not have a 'major stake' in Anduril," Henning wrote on X. "It's false to say Vulcan, Firehawk, and PsiQuantum are 'backed by Don Jr and Eric Trump.'" She accused the reporter of conflating the total size of fundraising rounds involving multiple investors with money invested specifically by 1789 Capital, where Trump Jr. is a partner.

"Those are two separate actions," she explained. Henning also argued the article failed to adequately distinguish between companies receiving government work before and after Trump returned to office, writing that "many of these companies have gotten government contracts during Biden AND Trump." She branded the story a "Total biased hit piece," arguing that its presentation of the investments distorted the underlying financing arrangements.

By that time, the report and analysis (available via Internet Archive) had been widely circulated and seized on by some Democratic lawmakers and Trump critics before it vanished.

After finding out about the deletion, Trump Jr. himself hit out at California Governor Gavin Newsom, who had shared the story on X, writing: "ABC deleted this article in less than 24 hours because it's false. Sounds about as long as your presidential campaign would last."

ABC News did not immediately respond to Mediaite's request for comment.
