Amazon employees face new job cuts across multiple teams
By Eugene Kim
Amazon employees were hit by another round of job cuts, this time affecting hundreds across several teams, according to internal messages viewed by Business Insider.
Key Takeaways:
- Job cuts reported on Tuesday targeted roles in customer service, marketplace support, and engineering within Amazon’s retail business, as well as in India and the UK.
- Fewer than 1,000 employees were affected in total, per a source familiar with the matter.
- The cuts come amid Amazon’s ambitious $220 billion spending plan on data centers and AI infrastructure.
Amazon’s Ongoing Cost Overhaul:
The latest cuts highlight Amazon’s ongoing cost-cutting efforts, which began with roughly 30,000 job eliminations late last year and early this year.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the cuts, stating:
"We're always looking at our team structures to ensure we're best set up to move fast as we innovate for customers. We've adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities. As part of these changes, we've made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we're committed to supporting affected employees through their transition."
