ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – American Home Furniture & Mattress will liquidate after 90 years. The New Mexico retailer expects to sell its showroom and backstock inventory over the next four to six weeks, with the final dissolution planned within about eight weeks.
Why is the store closing?
American Home attributes its closure to its inability to secure the necessary capital to restore inventory and financial stability. The company mentioned persistent industry challenges, including:
- Higher merchandise prices driven by tariffs.
- Elevated fuel and transportation costs.
- Declining consumer confidence in big-ticket purchases.
KOB 4 previously reported the store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.
What the owner is saying:
"For 90 years, American Home has been woven into the life of our city and the homes of generations of New Mexicans. I am deeply grateful to our guests, our vendor partners..."
