Small businesses and nonprofits impacted by Hurricane Lowell can now apply for recovery grants through the Kauai Hurricane Lowell Business Recovery Grant Program. This initiative will provide one-time grants of $5,000 or $10,000 to eligible non-agricultural small businesses and nonprofit organizations. The $2 million program is funded by the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) and administered by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii.

Eligible applicants must have experienced physical damage or economic losses directly caused by Hurricane Lowell. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until all funding is exhausted.

"We know many of our small businesses and nonprofit organizations are still struggling with the impacts of Hurricane Lowell," said Office of Economic Development Director Nalani Brun. "With limited funding available, we strongly encourage eligible organizations to review the requirements and apply as soon as possible."

Applications must be submitted online at kauaibusinessrecovery.org. DBEDT will also host a free workshop on Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Exhibition Center to discuss the grant program and other available business resources.

Agricultural businesses and producers will be supported through a separate state recovery assistance program, with more information expected later.
