By Jeff Della Rosa ([email protected])

Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale has completed a significant $82.7 million expansion, adding 15 inpatient beds and 50,000 square feet of new space while renovating 23,000 square feet.

On October 7th, Little Rock-based pediatric health system Arkansas Children’s celebrated the grand opening of its expanded Walker Campus, enhancing access to specialized pediatric healthcare for children and families in the region.

The Expansion

Breaking ground in 2024, this expansion project brings Arkansas Children’s Northwest to a total of 40 inpatient beds. It's part of a larger $371 million initiative by the system to:

  • Increase bed capacity
  • Transform surgical approaches
  • Redesign clinical spaces for multispecialty care
  • Create accessible campus experiences

The project will also add over 265,000 square feet of new space and more than 170,000 square feet of renovations, as well as 150 pediatric-trained doctors statewide and over 400 employees, including nurses.

Key Enhancements

The Arkansas Children’s Northwest expansion includes several crucial improvements to meet the needs of the growing region:

  • Expanded physical and occupational therapy services
  • A new infusion center
  • A central laboratory
  • Increased capacity across pediatric specialty and surgical services

"When ACNW first opened its doors, it represented a promise to this community: that children in Northwest Arkansas deserved access to exceptional pediatric care closer to home," stated Rustin Morse, senior vice president and chief administrator at Arkansas Children’s Northwest. "This expansion gives us more room to care for children, expanding services and giving our teams new opportunities to care for children with increasing complexity."
