Las Vegas Artists and Business Owners Face Potential First Friday Pause
Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley announced on Tuesday a potential pause for the First Friday event in the Arts District next month. While discussions are ongoing with Metro police, the First Friday Foundation, and the city, Berkley indicated there may be a hiatus in November.
This news comes as no surprise to some artists and business owners in the area. Some advocate for changes before the next event, while others recall past pauses, including during summer due to heat and for financial reasons.
A Historic Event with Past Pauses
Becky Miller, a property owner in the Arts District, shared that First Friday used to be paused during the summer months because of the extreme heat. Additionally, there have been instances when the event was temporarily halted for financial reasons or when the original organizers, Whirlygig, decided to take a break.
