New Student Orientation draws ‘record number of students’

A new "gaze of bandits" are ready to begin their year at Clatsop Community College. The school, whose mascot is “Bandit” the raccoon, held its New Student Orientation on Tuesday.

Kimberly Deal, a recent Astoria High School graduate, expressed her excitement: "I’m excited to meet all the really nice people here, as well as all the faculty." She is pursuing an associate of arts transfer degree, which will allow her to transfer on to a four-year university in Oregon.

Approximately 100 new students gathered in Patriot Hall to meet faculty and learn about available resources. They also received a campus tour. The day concluded with a barbecue and ice cream lunch, followed by a community resource fair.

Briana Smith, a benefits navigator with the college, highlighted the fair's significance: "It’s great for the community to see this new workforce and generation entering the job market. This is an opportunity to showcase what we have to offer here."

"We want them to walk away from this event feeling confident about the start of the school year," said CCC President Jarrod Hog.
