Richard Edward Abel, owner of Banner Supply, addressed the crowd at the 100th anniversary celebration, stating, "Everything we do, every decision we make, is to satisfy the wants and needs of our customers... Those are my friends, our customers, our suppliers, our employees."
A Century of Resilience
YOUNGSTOWN -- Banner Supply Company marked a significant milestone with its 100th anniversary celebration on September 25, welcoming the public and past employees alike. This family-owned business provides building materials, roofing supplies, and construction products.
Richard William Abel attributes the company's success to its dedicated workforce, many of whom are part of the extended family. He highlights the challenges overcome, including the Great Depression, World War II, and the recent crisis of rising fuel costs, as testament to the company's resilience.
Richard John Abel, grandson of the founder, agrees, emphasizing the strong family bond and the hard work of employees as key factors in the company's longevity. He acknowledges the special connection with customers and the community, which has been crucial to their survival.
Generational Legacy
Ron Chiarello, a former 40-year employee and whose son now works for the company, speaks highly of Banner Supply's treatment of its workers, describing them as "very good family (and) very good people."
The celebration not only honored the company's past but also celebrated its ongoing contribution to the Youngstown community.
