Boys and Girls Club of Benton County Launches Scholarship Fund
Boys & Girls Club of Benton County has recently established the Mark and Rachel Malo Scholarship Fund, with approximately $85,000 already invested and a goal to raise an additional $35,000 by the end of 2026.
Bryan Collom, director of individual giving, shares that the annual cost for one youth to attend the club is $2,400, covering meals and snacks throughout the year, while teens pay $500 annually.
"Our aim is to offer scholarships to 100 youth by the end of the year, with the long-term vision to endow this fund, ensuring its growth alongside the region's development," Collom stated.
The fund honors the legacy of Mark Malo, a dedicated supporter and leader who coached youth sports, mentored club members, and served as president of the organization's Board of Directors. Mark Malo of Bentonville passed away on February 12, 2024, after a battle with melanoma cancer at the age of 58.
"The Malo family's genuine nature shines through in every interaction," expressed Kari Fletcher, chief operating officer of Boys & Girls Club of Benton County. "Mark made every individual feel valued and important, regardless of their background."
Rachel Malo shared, "Knowing our family name is being honored through this scholarship, not for any personal recognition, but to provide opportunities for the club's kids, aligns perfectly with Mark's passion for mentoring."
The release highlights that 61% of the club's members qualify for scholarships, and the new fund will ensure access to after-school and summer programs for youth who might otherwise be unable to participate.
