Broncos Focused on Taking Care of Business Against Panthers
The Denver Broncos have a chance to improve their record to 7-2 before their bye week if they defeat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The Denver Broncos have experienced ups and downs in their 2026 gridiron campaign, currently holding a 6-2 record. Known for their close games and fourth-quarter comebacks, the team is gearing up for a crucial matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
This Sunday's game has been labeled as a "trap" by some, but Carolina's quarterback, Bo Nix, dismissed this notion, emphasizing the importance of every NFL game. He credited their coach, Payton, for focusing on each contest's significance and highlighted the team's ability to refocus after significant wins.
"It starts with Coach. Coach Payton is really good at that. He talks about every game in the NFL being an important game... They’re all must-wins. If you don’t play well, you’re going to end up messing around and getting beat," stated Nix.
"We know the importance of this week right before the Bye Week. We can’t go on a Bye early. This is a really important game for where we want to go. As captains and as leaders, it’s just all about practice. Details have to go up a notch, as if it isn’t already. More attention to detail, more communication. If you do everything a little bit more and maximize your time this week, I think we’ll be in a good spot."
The Broncos top the AFC West, holding the second seed in the AFC playoff race. With eight teams in the conference having at least five wins, the season has been surprisingly close.
Nix is right; this Week 9 matchup is crucial. Entering the bye week with a five-game winning streak and a 7-2 record would be ideal. Despite the Panthers' recent struggles, losing two in a row, Denver cannot afford to take them lightly.
The Panthers possess a strong running game and quarterback Bryce Young has been effective in involving various receivers. Denver's defense will need to step up, while the offense must continue to improve. Nix has shown promise over the past two games, but there is room for growth, especially on third downs and in the red zone.
