CLAREMONT, N.H. (WCAX) - While Green Up Day is a spring tradition, Claremont, New Hampshire, takes pride in its fall cleanup efforts, with local businesses playing a pivotal role. Blue trash bags were filled with litter by fifty to sixty volunteers from the community and nearby businesses.

“The last two years it started with a couple people on the team and then this year 90% of our team is here,” said Amber Gould, who works at Hypertherm and has strong ties to Claremont.

Jeff Barrette, owner of the Ink Factory, organizes the annual event. He believes it’s important for the community: “Especially on Water Street when we were there, trash accumulates all summer long. We thought it was just a great community activity.” The screen printing and promotions company has been in Claremont for 18 years and has incorporated the cleanup into their business model for the past six years.

“It’s a really simple thing, but to me it makes a difference, especially on the in-roads into town. If you are not seeing all kinds of trash on the side of the road, it makes it look like a place that cares,” Barrette said.

The volunteers ended the day with a barbecue at the Ink Factory as a token of appreciation for their hard work.
