College Station’s plan to reimagine the Harvey District, the stretch of the city from Highway 6 to Texas Avenue, has a long road ahead, according to business owners in the area.

Mike Feinman, who owns Fazoli’s on Harvey Road, attended this week’s working group meeting focused on mobility and connectivity. He emphasized the need for broader participation:

"How do we establish the long term vision for that area that includes the businesses—includes the housing—includes the transportation—which is a lot of what we’ve talked about."

Feinman suggested transforming the corridor from a priority traffic route to a vibrant destination, utilizing the area around Wolf Penn Creek Park. He also advocated for including housing owners in the discussions, proposing tax advantages for those who participate:

"So if there’s ten apartment complexes in that area and uptown, why can’t the first two or three that decide to do this get some tax advantages for doing it? Then the others will have to follow suit because they won’t be able to compete."

Feinman hopes promoting the Harvey Road corridor as 'Uptown College Station' will attract new businesses and benefit existing ones.

The next working group meeting is scheduled for November 10, focusing on character, public realm, parks, and trails.
