Downtown Gulfport Business Owners Bury Hot Dogs for Clear Skies During Cruisin’ the Coast

Gulfport Mainstreet and local business owners are exploring unconventional methods to keep the rain at bay for the upcoming 17th annual View the Cruise event. According to an old wives' tale, burying a hot dog can deter bad weather, so they decided to give it a try.

"We have put a lot of hard work into this weekend that’s coming up and we will do just about anything to keep the rain away," said Lisa Ashley, owner of Mainstreet Downtown Nutrition. "So, if it’s burying a hot dog, that’s what it is."

Kristen Garriga, executive director of Gulfport Mainstreet, added, "Even if it doesn’t work, rain or shine, downtown Gulfport is open and View the Cruise is happening rain or shine. We may make some adjustments to our Saturday concert but Sunday is rolling, and all the businesses are ready."

This unique ritual will become an annual tradition for the participating businesses.
