Mexican cuisine has returned to the building that for decades was Casa del Rey. El Agave Mexican Restaurant has opened at 901 W. Russell St., owned by Martin Leon, his wife Elle, and their cousin Oscar.
Leon, who grew up in Marshall, Minnesota, where his family owns El Rancho Mexican Restaurant, said they chose Sioux Falls because it’s “closer to home.” He noted that the former Casa del Rey is an iconic building.
The menu boasts over 200 items, ranging from appetizers and salads to breakfast, lunch, dinner entrees, and specialty items. There’s also a full liquor license.
"We’re trying to bring something to Sioux Falls that they’ve never had," said Leon. "Having a restaurant that is clean with a good atmosphere and good staff and good food, we’ll always be good."
Hiring is going well, with Leon adding that they've chosen their preferred candidates.
The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
