Elon Musk takes a stark view of the future of neoclouds (cloud companies specializing in AI data centers). In a recent X post, he predicts:
"That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many."
Musk's post was a response to Chamath Palihapitiya's view that neoclouds are "disorganized and poorly capitalized."
SpaceX, according to Musk, has secured $40 billion in debt financing for GPU purchases, contrasting with the reliance of many neoclouds on AI data centers for revenue.
Neocloud Stocks in Turmoil
The post comes as neocloud companies, like CoreWeave and Nebius, face stock price drops due to concerns over high debt and limited revenue streams.
Nvidia's Optimistic Outlook
Despite the fears, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, emphasizes the "off-the-charts" demand for AI cloud infrastructure, with Nvidia being a major backer of neoclouds.
