More properties will be contributing to the Business Improvement District (BID) in downtown Sioux Falls. The City Council unanimously approved the inclusion of industrial and purely multifamily properties in the BID at its Wednesday meeting.
That removes 21 properties that were put under an exemption years ago and will generate an estimated $23,000 per year to start once the revenue begins coming in two years from now.
Funds generated through the BID support downtown activation and advocacy, as well as the Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. ambassador program, which assists with various initiatives, from beautification to visitor assistance and connecting those on the street with resources.
“Tonight’s vote is the result of years of thoughtful planning and the leadership of our BID board, which has worked to align the ordinance with downtown’s current development priorities and long-term needs,” said Brandon Hanson, CEO of Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.
“We’re grateful for the trust property owners have placed in DTSF, humbled by their support and honored to serve every property owner through investments that help keep downtown active, welcoming, and economically strong.”
The board overseeing the BID plans to regularly review its structure and finances and make ongoing recommended changes.
