A historic Fall River mill, known as the Tower Mill, is now under new ownership, and the buyers are a local family-owned business with deep roots in the city.
Frank Clegg Leatherworks, which has occupied the space for a decade, has purchased the property. The family plans to preserve the mill's manufacturing legacy while fostering future growth.
"This is kind of a great opportunity to keep a building that was built for manufacturing still be able to do what it was built for," shared Andrew Clegg.
The Clegg family's journey began 56 years ago in humble beginnings. They aim to continue crafting leather goods from the fifth floor while contributing to the mill's continued prosperity.
The approximately 200,000-square-foot mill, constructed in the late 1800s, was once known as Barnard Mill and housed over 80,000 spindles within its granite walls. Today, it serves as home to over 20 businesses.
"There’s a potential that, you know, it could have sold to somebody else, and you never know what could have happened," Andrew Clegg explained. "We feel more comfortable now investing more into this building, knowing that, you know, it’s ours."
The family's vision includes continued growth and attracting new businesses to the historic mill.
"Our plan is to grow, be a good patron of the city, create new jobs," Ian Clegg noted.
The sale allows Frank Clegg to pass on the business he established decades ago to his sons, while ensuring the mill continues to be a hub for local manufacturing and entrepreneurship.
