Final weekend for Marsha's on South Street as the women's sports bar shuts down

A beloved LGBTQIA+ sports bar is shutting its doors for good after only being open for a little more than a year. Marsha's on South Street in Philadelphia is closing its doors permanently, as announced on their Instagram.

It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to close Marsha’s doors for good. We have loved serving this community, and still believe that more than ever this city needs more women/queer/BIPOC-owned businesses. We sincerely hope that someone is able to step up and fill this void.

The bar will be open for one last time this upcoming weekend, on Friday, Oct. 16, Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18.

Marsha's opened its doors on Sept. 19, 2025, and aimed to be a space where women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and all sports fans could connect. Founded by Philadelphia native, Chivonn Anderson, the bar was named after Marsha P. Johnson, a prominent gay rights activist.

Anderson had previously worked in the industry for 25 years but had never been part of an environment focused on women's sports.
