Fire Damages 75-Year-Old Collierville Business, Kills Beloved Store Pet

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) - A Thursday night fire destroyed Russell’s Farm Supply Co. at 136 S. Center St., killing the store’s longtime resident parrot, Popeye. No other injuries were reported.
Collierville Fire crews responded around 9:30 p.m. The crews arrived within minutes to find heavy fire with flames coming through the roof. Firefighters brought the fire under control within about 10 minutes and remained on scene for extinguishment and overhaul.
The cause and origin remain under investigation by the Collierville Fire Marshal’s Office. Collierville police officers and dispatchers assisted, along with Germantown Fire Department.

Despite the loss, the store plans to move forward with its Fall Festival this Saturday, provided the grounds are deemed safe.
The Town of Collierville also released the following statement:
Our hearts are with Russell’s Farm Supply Co., its owners, employees, and everyone affected by the fire last night. Since 1951, Russell’s has been more than just a business in our town. It has been part of our community’s story, creating memories, building relationships, and serving generations of residents. We are particularly saddened by the loss of Popeye, the parrot, who brought joy to so many who visited the store. We are thinking of you, we are here for you, and we are standing with you.
