NAMA looks to amplify milling industry's voice
More than 125 leaders from the milling industry and their guests gathered at the North American Millers' Association (NAMA) 2026 annual meeting, held in San Antonio from October 1 to 4.
A Time of Change
As the agri-food sector faces an unpredictable landscape, NAMA encouraged members to expect a stronger voice for the milling industry in national food discussions with policymakers and the public.
"We are going through a lot of change right now... Our priority at NAMA is to help you and to advocate for you," stated Jane DeMarchi, NAMA president.
Shifting Priorities
NAMA conducted a survey among board members to understand the current industry concerns, revealing a shift in priorities from their 2024 strategic plan. While the plan previously prioritized food regulations, technical issues, transportation, sustainability, trade, international food aid, and research funding, the recent survey highlighted:
- The impact of "MAHA (make America healthy again)" initiatives on grain-based foods.
- Navigating complex regulatory environments and declining consumption trends.
- Exploring the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industry.
Advocacy and Support
DeMarchi emphasized NAMA's commitment to advocating for members, especially as they navigate these challenging times. The association aims to amplify the industry's voice in Washington and beyond, ensuring that the hard work of milling industry businesses is recognized.
