JFNA Report Unveils Diaspora's Impact on Post-Oct. 7 Israel Rebuilding
This report details the significant contribution of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in supporting Israel's recovery after the October 7, 2023, attacks and the subsequent security challenges.
Funds Allocation
The JFNA network raised a total of $908 million, with $252 million allocated through the central fund of the Israel Emergency Response Committee, active for two years until 2025. The remaining funds were distributed directly by individual federations.
Key Areas of Support
The committee's work focused on four main pillars:
- Lifeline Services: Ensuring basic needs and immediate relief for displaced families.
- Medical and Trauma Relief: Providing support for those affected by the attacks.
- Economic Relief: Assisting families and communities in their financial recovery.
- Community Resilience: Fostering strength and stability within Israeli communities.
This assistance was carried out in collaboration with long-standing partners like the Jewish Agency for Israel and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).
Impact and Long-Term Support
According to Rebecca Caspi, Director-General of JFNA’s Israel office, the report highlights the enduring support from Jewish Federations. She emphasizes their commitment to Israel's well-being, both before and after the establishment of the state.
The emergency response, over three years, resulted in:
- Over $47 million for immediate relief, including clothing, meals, and shelter for displaced families.
- Funding for emergency preparedness measures, such as volunteer training, communication improvements, and bomb shelter upgrades.
- Support for vulnerable households and individuals with extended grocery needs.
This report serves as a testament to the dedication of the Jewish Diaspora in rebuilding and strengthening Israel during challenging times.
