Home-based bread business Golden Grain opens first Worcester café
Golden Grain Artisanal Bread Café, which began in a family kitchen in 2024, is opening its first brick-and-mortar location at 250 Commercial St. in downtown Worcester.

What began as a small bread business operating from a family kitchen two years ago is making the leap to a downtown Worcester storefront.
Owners Bryan Faucher and wife Leidy Cotrina, who announced the opening in an invitation to The Worcester Guardian, said Golden Grain quickly outgrew its home kitchen as its customer base expanded.
Bread remains at the center of the business, but the larger Commercial Street space has allowed Golden Grain to develop into a full café, adding beverages, pastries and seasonal dishes influenced by Spanish, French, Italian, South American and American cuisines.
The café is also building its menu around seasonal whole foods sourced from independent local farmers and traditional cooking techniques. Coffee will be another focus. Golden Grain has partnered with a multigenerational farm in Honduras to source the espresso beans used at the café.
The move represents a considerable change for a business that only two years ago was producing its bread under Massachusetts’ cottage food framework, which allows certain food products to be made in residential kitchens for sale to consumers.
"None of this would have been possible without the customers who have kept Golden Grain afloat from the very beginning," said Leidy in the announcement. "We’re so grateful for their support and so excited to become a part of Worcester’s growing food and small-business community."
The café joins a downtown restaurant and retail landscape that has continued to evolve around Worcester Common and the surrounding Commercial, Front and Franklin street corridors.
Golden Grain will hold its ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 250 Commercial St. Representatives from Worcester’s Economic Development team, city council and City Manager’s Office are expected to attend.
