International Paper Enters Talks for EMEA Business Sale
International Paper has confirmed it has received unsolicited offers for the independent company it's planning to spin off in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region.
A Spin-Off in the Works
The Memphis, Tennessee-based company announced in January 2027 its intention to split into two businesses, one in North America and the other in EMEA, following its acquisition of London-based DS Smith. IP had previously stated it aimed to complete the split in early 2027.
Recent Developments
According to The Financial Times, private equity firms Lone Star and Atlas Holdings are pursuing deals to acquire the spinoff company. The report also mentioned other PE firms had initially shown interest, but only Lone Star and Atlas remain. IP's stock price experienced a 7% surge on Thursday following the FT article.
Unlocking the Future
The company's statement on Thursday afternoon confirmed it was "progressing the Spin-Off and evaluating offers." This development hints at a potential sale of the upcoming EMEA spinoff, marking a significant turn of events in International Paper's strategic direction.
