BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - First responders across Bay County are getting a better night’s rest thanks to a donation from a local business.
The Sleep Center Superstores in Panama City delivered 22 brand-new Tempur-Pedic mattresses Tuesday to two local emergency agencies. The donation includes 14 mattresses valued at $14,000 for Bay County Fire and Rescue, and eight mattresses valued at $8,000 for Lynn Haven Fire Rescue.
Store owner Richard Branham emphasized the importance of supporting frontline workers after storms like Hurricane Isaias.
"We are truly blessed that the good Lord has put us in a position to support Bay County Fire & Rescue and Lynn Haven Fire Rescue. In light of Hurricane Isaias, these men and women are on the front lines, serving our community 24/7/365. When they do get the opportunity to rest, they deserve a high-quality mattress to get the best sleep possible."
Justin Leach from Bay County Fire and Rescue highlighted the significance of proper rest for local emergency crews, who respond to nearly 40,000 calls annually.
Lynn Haven Deputy Fire Chief Bobby Mayo also expressed gratitude, commending The Sleep Center's generosity.
"We are proud to have Richard and The Sleep Center as part of our community. As we continue to serve the citizens of Lynn Haven, it’s clear that The Sleep Center understands the value of our community’s tax dollars. Richard’s generosity is truly humbling and reflects the heart he has for the people who serve our community."
Since 2018, The Sleep Center has donated over 300 mattresses worth more than $300,000 to emergency departments throughout Bay County, including Panama City Beach, Callaway, Springfield, and Mexico Beach.
