Toledo, Ohio (WTVG) - Residents and business owners can now return to their homes and businesses in North Toledo, as Toledo Fire & Rescue confirms the evacuation zones related to the MC Tank terminal chemical release have been lifted.
Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz noted approximately 1,000 people were affected during the peak of the evacuation.
Duling, CEO of Skyline Party Rentals located next to the terminal, describes the scene:
“I saw it on the news right away, so I stayed away... My building was completely engulfed in the chemical. It almost looked like it was raining on it.”
The Cleanup and Business Impact:
The cleanup process will be lengthy, affecting Duling's business operations and employees:
“We weren’t able to get to our trucks and equipment... A lot of these guys are paycheck-to-paycheck, so it hurt them more than it hurt me... Hopefully, I can get them compensated in some way.”
Despite the challenges, Duling's team returned to work on Friday, ready to rebuild.
