Teenager Arrested Following Social Media Threat Against Cecilia High School
Recent reports of threats involving schools across Acadiana have prompted evacuations, investigations, and most recently, the arrest of a teenager. The incidents include:
- Two reported bomb threats at Westgate High School.
- Threatening social media posts circulating in St. Mary Parish.
- A separate threat against Cecilia High School.
Although these incidents have not been connected, St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux emphasized that each report requires law enforcement to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
“What may look like just another social-media post can quickly turn into a full-scale investigation,” said Breaux.
Investigators utilize various methods to identify the source, including:
- Cellphone and social media records.
- Witness interviews.
- Subpoenas.
- Search warrants.
Deputies, investigators, bomb dogs, and fire departments may also be involved in the response.
“There’s a whole bunch of resources that are being taken away from real crime and real things that are happening in this world,” Breaux noted.
