The 2026 Marburg Memorial Lecture will be held on Friday, October 30 from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union Ballrooms. Organized by Marquette Business, the lecture will feature Dr. Leah Boustan, professor of economics and director of the Economic History Program at Yale University. We invite students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the Marquette community to register for this free event.
Boustan's presentation, titled "Where are the streets of gold? Intergenerational mobility of immigrants across destination countries", will delve into patterns of mobility among the children of immigrants across fifteen countries. She will also explore varying political attitudes toward immigration across nations.
In addition to her roles at Yale, Boustan serves as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, co-directing the Development of the American Economy Program and acting as co-editor of American Economic Journal: Applied Economics. Her research focuses on migration, labor markets, and inequality in American history, at the intersection of economic history and labor economics.
The Marburg Memorial Lecture series honors the late Theodore F. Marburg, a longtime member of the economics department. The series fosters discussions on moral, philosophical, and social dimensions of economic issues and continues Marburg's commitment to economic aspects of peace and justice. Made possible by the Marburg family's generosity and support from Marquette's Center for Applied Economics, the lecture is a significant event.
