National Park College (NPC) trustees approved a resolution on Wednesday, October 28th, authorizing the college to enter into a merger agreement with the University of Arkansas System. The merger proposal will now be reviewed by the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees. If approved, NPC will become the 10th community college in Arkansas to join the system.
The board emphasized the shared commitment between NPC and the University of Arkansas System to:
- Educational attainment
- Workforce development
- Cultural enrichment
- Economic growth
throughout Arkansas.
“After careful consideration, the board concluded that joining the University of Arkansas System is in the best interests of our students, employees, and the communities we serve,” said NPC Board Chair Jim Hale.
NPC President Dr. Wade Derden will negotiate and execute the merger agreement and transition plan, in collaboration with legal counsel and University of Arkansas System leadership.
“I am pleased with the board’s decision today. The University of Arkansas System’s strategic vision aligns closely with our own,” said Dr. Derden.
National Park College was established in 1971 and offers a range of academic programs and career training.
