New Flomaton Bookstore Aims to Spark Downtown Growth Amid Vacant Storefronts
The town of Flomaton's business landscape grew on Saturday with the opening of a new bookstore, The Guilty Librarian, amid bustling downtown revitalization efforts. With a population of just over 1,400, the small community is experiencing a metamorphosis driven by determined local entrepreneurs.
Tori Walker and Chandra Rigby, mother and daughter duo, opened their bookstore in a vibrant stretch of downtown Flomaton, sharing a vision to bring life to the area. "We wanted to bring business to the town of Flomaton," said Walker. "We see potential here, and we believe this will be perfect."
Their efforts are part of a larger revitalization strategy for downtown Flomaton, where vacant buildings once stood. The pair purchased the building from Melissa Jernigan, who, along with her husband, has been actively investing in the area's redevelopment. "We do hope to get a grant writer so we can bring even more to Flomaton," Jernigan expressed.
Rigby and Walker are already planning events similar to Pensacola's popular Palafox Market with the approval of the Flomaton City Council, aiming to foster a thriving downtown community.
