OHIO Business Service Center Open House Draws Strong Turnout

The Ohio University Business Service Center (OHIO BSC) welcomed colleagues from across the University to its open house on October 7. Faculty and staff from academic and administrative units attended to meet the team, tour the space, and learn about how the OHIO BSC supports OHIO's mission. The event saw a strong turnout, with visitors engaging in discussions and exchanging ideas with BSC team members.

Efficiencies on Display

During the open house, the BSC team set up stations showcasing how centralized, standardized processes save time and reduce rework for departments. Some key highlights:

  • Streamlined Transactions: Staff demonstrated how consolidating routine business tasks under one team leads to consistent, accurate processing. Examples include a 79% reduction in audit findings.
  • Faster Turnaround: Standard workflows and clear handoffs minimize back-and-forth, shortening request completion times. This has contributed to maintaining a customer satisfaction rate of 96%.
  • Better Tools and Self-Service: Attendees were shown the resources available to help them submit requests correctly the first time. Utilizing simple Team Dynamix forms and Live Chat, the OHIO BSC maintains a balance between customer appreciation and standardization, resulting in a 200% improvement in purchasing efficiency.
  • Single Point of Contact: Departments can rely on a dedicated team of experts instead of handling tasks independently. This frees up employees to focus on core University work, such as teaching, research, and student support.

Meeting the Team

Guests had the opportunity to meet the people behind the service. Many expressed appreciation for putting faces to familiar names from emails and help tickets.

"I'm truly grateful to everyone who attended and shared ideas and celebrations," said Heather Krugman, executive director of the OHIO BSC. "The turnout was fantastic, the questions thoughtful, and there was a great energy around sharing. A big thank you to everyone who participated."

Dr. Zaki Karuppalil, professor and chair of the Department of Engineering Technology and Management in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology and primary faculty advisor to the BSC, shared his enthusiasm: "I am amazed by what the BSC has accomplished in under four years. Our leadership had a vision, but it has exceeded my expectations. I believe every unit on campus should utilize the BSC."

Looking Ahead

The BSC expresses its gratitude to all who attended and provided feedback, which will guide its ongoing development. Those unable to attend can reach the team and explore resources at ohio.edu/bsc. The new 2026 OHIO BSC report is also available on the website.
