Mark Friedman Resigns from Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools

Mark Friedman, school business administrator for Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools (MVYPS), announced his resignation at a Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) committee meeting on Monday.

Friedman, who has worked for MVYPS for 17 years, first as the accounts manager for MVRHS and then as school business administrator starting in 2020, will be taking on the role of director of business and finance for Middleboro Public Schools in Middleboro.

“I’m excited for that opportunity. There’s also a great deal of sadness leaving so much of what is unique, and the people here,” Friedman shared at the meeting. “I want to thank you all for allowing me to join your meetings and to help you crunch numbers.”

Friedman revealed to The Times that he’s leaving the Island to pursue a new opportunity and to be closer to family living off-Island. His last day at MVYPS is Dec. 5.

Jaime Curley, MVYPS superintendent, expressed gratitude for Friedman’s contributions to the Island schools.

“Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to our schools and Island community. We are grateful for his many years of service and contributions to the district,” Curley said.

Friedman also played a pivotal role as the finance officer of the high school’s ongoing $333.5 million building project.

Curley mentioned that she plans to present an interim candidate to fill Friedman’s role for the remainder of the school year at the next school committee meeting.
