ATHOL'S Small Business Showcase: Unlocking Entrepreneurial Dreams

At the upcoming Small Business Showcase, five local entrepreneurs will present their innovative business concepts to a panel of three judges, vying for a top prize of $10,000.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, November 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall in Athol Town Hall, is a significant initiative under the Remaking Main Street campaign, jointly organized by the Polus Center, Athol Credit Union (ACU), and NewVue Communities.

Samantha Beauvais, marketing manager at ACU, highlights the workshop leading up to the showcase: "The competition is the culmination of a business training program that began in early October. ACU and NewVue facilitated the class, attracting 10 participants who diligently attended every session, aiming to develop comprehensive business plans."

The top five business plans will be selected for the showcase, providing entrepreneurs with a platform to practice their pitches in a supportive environment. Beauvais expresses her enthusiasm for the event's potential growth: "We plan to make this an annual occurrence, hopefully with even more participation and improved formats."

Diverse Business Ideas

Business proposals vary widely, encompassing a range from laundry services and crafting to remote-controlled vehicles. Established businesses on Main Street, such as Athol Trading Post, Fringe & Stone, and McMannis Florist, also contributed innovative ideas to the showcase. While most participants are from Athol, a few have traveled from nearby towns.

Showcase Format

Each of the five selected entrepreneurs will have a dedicated table to display their products or services, adhering to a strict pitch time limit.

People's Choice and Prize Funds

In addition to the $10,000 grand prize, a $5,000 People's Choice Award will be given to the entrepreneur selected by the audience. Participants can use the prize money for various business-related expenses, such as signage, marketing, or store improvements, upon submitting valid receipts.
