Stallinga Honored with Chamber's Spirit of DeWald Award

This year’s Spirit of DeWald Award from the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce has been presented to Nathan Stallinga, executive director of DakotAbilities.
The award recognizes individuals whose leadership, service, and character align with the chamber's ideals. Other nominees included Tamien Dysart of Think 3D Solutions and Bernie DeWald, a longtime chamber volunteer.
Stallinga, with over 30 years in human services, is a prominent advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His contributions extend beyond DakotAbilities, including work at the South Dakota Legislature and with Community Support Providers of South Dakota.
A dedicated chamber volunteer since 2012, Stallinga has actively participated in various committees and initiatives, such as the ambassador committee, community appeals, chamber foundation, and Operation Thank You. He currently chairs the issues management committee and contributes to the budget and finance committee.
Shelly Johnson, director of development at DakotAbilities, nominated Stallinga, highlighting his leadership, honesty, integrity, and dedication. She emphasizes his role as a mentor and trusted colleague.
"Nathan’s reputation for... service, leadership, and a strong commitment to the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce” is commendable, says Johnson.
The Spirit of DeWald Award, first presented in 2010, honors Bernie Dewald, a longtime chamber volunteer known for his decades of unwavering dedication and integrity. Stallinga is the 16th recipient of this prestigious award.
"Nathan has been a steady and trusted presence within the chamber... His commitment to serving others... reflects the spirit of this award," stated Jeff Griffin, chamber president and CEO.
