VT Ag & Timber Assistance Program Opens Oct. 26

This state-run program, led by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, provides disaster recovery assistance to agricultural producers and timber owners who experienced physical and economic weather-related losses in 2023 and/or 2024. Eligible losses may include infrastructure damage, land restoration practices, market loss, and future economic loss, with coverage available for up to $75,000.

VATDAP is designed to provide payment for costs incurred due to damage such as economic injury and lost infrastructure. Costs incurred to return fields to production or replace damaged infrastructure could also be eligible. Eligible applicants applying for payment from economic injury or recovery already completed will receive a single payment. If recovery work has not yet been completed, applicants will attest to complete the work within 18 months of receiving funds.

There will be an applicant focused webinar on October 20 to help producers prepare for the application window. Staff will review eligibility, required documentation, and how to navigate the online portal. Those interested in attending can register for the webinar [here](link is external).

Applications will be accepted through December 2026, and payments are anticipated in early 2027. Producers seeking support are encouraged to attend the webinar and begin gathering documentation in advance. Required materials for the application may include ownership or lease documentation, parcel information, photos of damage, receipts or estimates, and other records showing weather-related losses.
