The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors has approved a special permit for a proposed pet aquamation facility in Bealeton.
Applicants and Their Business
Applicants Jessica and Daniel Keaton are behind Water Wings Pet Aquamation, a unique cremation service for companion animals that uses a chemical, water-based process called alkaline hydrolysis.
Approval and Conditions
The application was approved unanimously on October 8th. A condition was added, requiring bi-annual inspections by the Water and Sanitation Authority, as the facility's wastewater will enter the public sewer system via a connection to be constructed at the applicants' expense.
The Aquamation Process
According to a staff report, the aquamation process utilizes a combination of flowing water and alkalinity to accelerate the natural breakdown of tissue, resulting in ash-like remains that are softer, whiter, and lighter than traditional cremation.
Property Details
The property, located at 6342 Mintbrook Lane, includes a 19th-century farmhouse, a detached garage, three sheds, and gravel parking.
