Workshop Provides Training to Start and Grow Small Businesses

SALISBURY — Small business entrepreneurs were invited to attend a workshop designed to help them start or grow their ventures. Rowan-Cabarrus Community College sponsored the free event, held October 15 at the Rowan Public Library’s main branch.
The workshop was led by Roxanne Reed, an entrepreneur, teacher, and specialist in access capital and startups who described herself as a "Small Business Center success story myself." Tricia Siaso, program specialist with the Small Business Center, a part of the Small Business Network of North Carolina, was also present.
Siaso highlighted the center’s offerings, noting they provide workshops, resources, and business counseling to entrepreneurs in the state, all at no cost. She emphasized the uniqueness of this event, citing Reed's expertise, the in-person nature of the session (a rare occurrence as most services are virtual), and the opportunity to connect with a team member who offers weekly in-person and virtual counseling at the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce.
The workshop commenced with a session where attendees shared their business stories, challenges, and financial concerns. Reed, drawing from her 30 years of experience, including setbacks in 2008 and during the COVID-19 pandemic, offered insights and guidance.
Reed's journey began at 23 when she founded her first company. She now shares her knowledge, having worked with the SPCAC (a sister organization to the Small Business Center) for several years, specializing in startups.
