Caldwell is making significant strides in public safety and park improvements, according to Mayor Eric Phillips, who shared updates on various city projects.

Fire Stations and Paramedic Services:

The city broke ground on Fire Station 4 and is renovating Fire Station 1, while discussions continue regarding a potential new fire district. The city finalized the sale of a portion of Ustick Park to Canyon County Paramedics District for a new paramedic station, enhancing emergency medical services in southern Caldwell.

Park Improvements:

Proceeds from the Ustick Park sale, coupled with grants and impact fees, will fund the completion of Lions Park, transforming an area once described as “the land that time forgot.”

Police Chief Selection:

The city has completed police chief interview panels and is now in the final stages of testing for two finalists. Phillips emphasized that the selection is not yet official, with further background checks, physical tests, and council interviews ahead.

Other City Business:

The city is working on comprehensive plan amendments and code updates. An e-bike ordinance is under consideration, focusing on safety, especially for younger riders.

Phillips also highlighted regional transportation discussions regarding the Exit 26 bridge closure, traffic congestion, and infrastructure funding advocacy. He encouraged collaboration among jurisdictions in Canyon County to secure funding for much-needed improvements.
