Downtown Brewery Listed for Sale

The owners of Severance Brewing Co. are looking to sell the business. Scott and Melissa Heckel have announced that they do not plan to extend their lease at The Cascade in downtown Sioux Falls when it expires at the end of June.
"The decision is not merely a financial one," Scott Heckel said in a statement. "Despite early challenges, we’re debt-free, and 2025 was our most profitable year so far. However, extending our lease means a commitment to another four years that we just can’t make at this time. Our kids are getting older, and I want to be more present physically and mentally than I’ve been able to over the last seven-plus years while they’re still at home."
Severance Brewing Co. began in 2019 with the mission to create a space for people to come together, enjoy a locally crafted pint, and build relationships while helping the community that supports them.
"I’m more than happy to say that I believe we and our amazing team have accomplished that – and far, far more," Heckel said.
The business at 701 N. Phillips Ave. is listed for sale with Transworld Business Advisors, with the hope that someone will connect with what they’ve built and want to continue what they’ve started. "There are also a number of folks in our community that have been looking for an opportunity to start their own brewing journey, and our location is about as turn-key as you can get, with a ton of future potential," he added.
The brewery plans to operate as usual through June and will bring back a number of customer favorites in the coming months.
