FTC Lawsuit Accuses Dollar General of Deceptive Pricing and Overcharging Customers

Business Insider

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Dollar General, accusing the retail chain of deceptive pricing practices and overcharging customers.

The FTC alleges that Dollar General engaged in "a wide-ranging scheme to mislead customers about the true cost of their purchases." This included hiding additional fees and artificially inflating prices, making it appear as though customers were getting a better deal than they actually were.

The lawsuit further claims that Dollar General used "gimmicks" and "misleading marketing" to lure customers in, only to overcharge them at checkout.

"Dollar General's conduct is a testament to its disregard for consumers' rights and the rules governing fair and honest business practices," said Jessica Rich, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

The FTC is seeking compensation for affected consumers and to stop Dollar General from engaging in similar practices in the future.
