Things are looking brighter for investors, according to Morgan Stanley. Here's why:
Since June 2, the S&P 500 has been flat, with the last month seeing a 3% drop. However, the bank's chief investment officer, Mike Wilson, believes the correction is nearing its end.
In a client note, Wilson highlights several factors that could signal a market turnaround:
- Downside pressure on top names: The market's leading companies are feeling the heat, following a broader sell-off.
- Fed hawkishness may ease: The Fed kept rates unchanged in October, and there's a high bar for future cuts.
- Treasury yields fall: 10-year yields have dropped by 40 basis points in the past month.
- Improved market breadth: 62% of S&P 500 stocks are above their 200-day moving averages, up from 42% a month ago.
- Midterm elections: The results should bring clarity to congressional control.
To prepare for the rally, Morgan Stanley suggests:
- Re-evaluate your portfolio: Consider rebalancing to take advantage of the potential recovery.
- Focus on growth sectors: Areas like technology and healthcare have shown resilience during the downturn.
- Stay invested for the long term: Avoid making emotional decisions based on short-term market fluctuations.
