ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A man is facing several charges for attempting to escape from deputies after allegedly stealing from a local business, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, Zachary Young, 30, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, obstructing, fleeing, and trespassing.

Deputies say they were dispatched just after 1:10 a.m. Tuesday to a local business on Oliver Street in St. Albans following a report of a person trespassing on the property. Once on scene, deputies say they found Young on the property and ordered him not to move.

Young allegedly left the scene on foot, discarding a backpack as he ran, according to deputies. Deputies say they repeatedly ordered Young to stop and warned him a K-9 would be used if he continued to flee. When Young failed to comply, K-9 Bingo was released to stop him, deputies say. According to a criminal complaint, Young actively resisted by kicking and fighting K-9 Bingo while continuing to refuse deputies’ commands.

Deputies say they were able to search Young’s backpack and found several items believed to be stolen from the property. Young was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, where his bond was set at $13,000 cash only.

Deputies say this is an active investigation.
