Redfin Appoints General Manager to Restart Multifamily Rentals Business

Redfin has re-hired former VP Andy Swanton to rebuild its rentals division, as announced in a Nov. 6 email from Rocket Companies. Swanton has been appointed General Manager of Rentals, a move that follows recent litigation regarding the company's previous rentals business.

In early 2025, Redfin shut down its rentals business and laid off 450 employees as part of a $100 million syndication agreement with Zillow. The deal made Zillow the exclusive provider of multifamily rental listings on Redfin's platforms. The partnership faced an antitrust lawsuit in September 2025 from the FTC and five states, claiming it removed competition from the market. The parties reached a settlement allowing syndication to continue but requiring Redfin to restart its rental product by 2027.

As GM, Swanton shared on LinkedIn: "I'll get to build the next version of rentals at Redfin." He aims to create solutions for renters at every step of their journey, from deciding to rent to buying.

Swanton returns to Redfin after two stints at Opendoor, where he most recently served as Senior Director of Acquisition Pricing. He previously held the position of General Manager at Opendoor.

Redfin Chief Product Officer Ariel Dos Santos praised Swanton as a "proven operator who has rapidly scaled consumer real estate businesses." She added that he "will make the rental search experience on Redfin.com, Rent.com, and ApartmentGuide.com even better."
