Students, Local Business Team Up to Spread Seeds and Support Pollinators
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Nearly 20 students from Topeka Collegiate School helped to spread over 30,000 seeds from native milkweed plants on Nov. 6, in a partnership with All Things Great n’ Small (ATGS), a local agricultural small business.
Daniel Walker, ATGS co-owner, said those plants, which help to support local pollinators, are also a way to rebuild the area’s diverse ecosystem.
“That wonderful feeling you get when you see a butterfly fly by, that’s something that shouldn’t be restricted to just those of us who were maybe born before the 2000s, you know?” Walker said. “We wanna make sure that that’s something that everybody has that experience, and when we support this ecology, when we get these plants out there, that’s the future we’re building.”
Walker also said that ATGS hopes to continue Friday’s seedings all over the Topeka area.
