A Neighborhood Debate in Brooklyn
A debate is currently unfolding in Brooklyn regarding the establishment of a Business Improvement District (BID) on the Northside of Williamsburg to enhance street and park cleanliness.
Approximately 80 neighborhoods across New York City already benefit from BIDs, which are funded through assessments on local property owners. The proposed fee structure is a subject of debate, with annual costs varying from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on the property.
City Council Member Lincoln Restler, representing the area, has been a strong advocate for this initiative. He maintains that the assessment is a negligible cost for the improved cleanliness and safety it brings.
Restler sat down with "Mornings On 1" to discuss the proposed BID, the mechanism of fee collection, and the concerns raised by property owners.
